You know what's useful? Being able to refer to one's self. Like, if I wanted a drink from Daddy's cup, I used to point to the cup and say "uh! mm! uh!". Now all I do is look at the cup and say, "Beh-Beh?" If I think the point needs a little oomph, I'll point at my chest, too. Works like a charm.
Actually, all sorts of words are useful:
- "Spoo" (spoon)
- "Cah" (encore/again)
- "Biby" (Sara/baby)
- "Whozzat?" (Hi, Sara)
- "Diddy" (Daddy and/or Mommy)
- "Mama" (an animal's parent)
- "Caw" (car)
- "Hohhhhm" (home)
- "They-et-is!" (there it is)
- "Uh oh" (I dropped something)
- "Honk" (let me squeeze your nose, please)
And my favourite:
- "Bus! Bus! BUS! BUSSS! Bus!" (I saw a bus)

Oh, I can't wait until Xavier has a few words in inventory now.
Another suggestion Ben buddy ol'pal is...re-pe-ti-tion... I do it ALL the time to my parents and it drives them to the brink of insanity..
For instance, as soon as I walk in the door back home, I say 'cookie? cookie? cookie? cookie?" and i will keep saying it til they give me a cookie. works like a charm...add a smile and these old people crack.
keikster ; )
